South Portland, Maine – A mid-morning visit to Key Bank at 445 Gorham Road turned into a harrowing experience on January 26th when a lone male suspect executed a robbery, prompting a swift response from the South Portland Police Department.
Incident Overview: At precisely 11:49 AM, South Portland Police were called to Key Bank following reports of a robbery. The lone male suspect, brandishing a note, demanded cash while threatening the presence of an explosive device. Despite no actual display of a weapon or device, the threat alone was enough to cause concern. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
Suspect Description: The suspect, believed to be a white male, was adorned in a black jacket, black mask, a beanie-style cap, and sunglasses. Authorities have attached a photo of the suspect in question.
Vehicle Recovery: The suspect made a quick getaway in a black Chevrolet Suburban, fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. South Portland Police later located the abandoned vehicle approximately 1 mile away in a parking lot at 75 John Roberts Road. Although unoccupied, the vehicle was impounded for evidence processing. It is suspected that the vehicle had been stolen by the suspect expressly for the robbery.
Evacuation and Safety Measures: The parking lot at 75 John Roberts Road houses several professional office tenants. As a safety precaution, these offices were evacuated temporarily until the suspect vehicle could be thoroughly examined and declared safe.
