Renton, Washington – The Renton Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a pickpocket suspect involved in an incident at the Safeway grocery store on NE 4th in the Highlands area.
On January 27, at approximately 6 p.m., a female victim reported that she believed someone had pickpocketed her while leaving the Safeway store. Surveillance footage revealed that a group of about four individuals appeared to be watching the victim as she checked out at a self-checkout stand. The male suspect, the focus of the identification effort, was observed following the victim and stealing her wallet from a compartment in her bag.
The group, seen leaving in a minivan, raised suspicion as the victim later discovered attempted fraudulent transactions totaling around $500 using her debit cards. Fortunately, the victim promptly reported the suspicious activity, preventing the unauthorized transactions.
The Renton Police Department has established probable cause for theft 1 on the male suspect and seeks community assistance to identify him. Individuals with information are urged to contact detectives by emailing crimetips@rentonwa.gov and referencing Case #24-999.
