Saco, ME – On February 9, 2024, just before noon, The Saco Police responded to reports of gunshots in downtown Saco. The incident involved a red Dodge Charger and a grey Honda HRV near Elm Street and Temple Street. Both vehicles moved toward the intersection of North Street and Elm Street, where a collision occurred. The Honda HRV, which was involved in the shooting, crashed into another vehicle at the intersection, including an Old Orchard Beach school bus. Thankfully, no students on the bus reported injuries.
Following the collision, four individuals from the suspect vehicle fled on foot. Evidence suggests that at least one of them, wearing all dark clothing, had been shot in the right arm. A firearm was observed in the Honda HRV’s back seat, which has been towed and secured for further investigation.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including tactical, K-9, and drone operators, were actively involved in searching and clearing areas where potential sightings of the suspects were reported. Later in the evening, the red Dodge Charger was located outside the City of Saco and was towed and secured as part of the investigation.
As a precaution, several Saco schools, including Thornton Academy and Thornton Academy Middle School, Saco Middle School, CK Burns School, Young School, and Fairfield School, were placed on lockdown due to their proximity to the incidents. They were later released under police supervision.
