Antioch, IL: Police Issue Community Alert After Vehicle Thefts

Antioch, ILAntioch Police Chief Geoffrey Guttschow has issued a community alert following two vehicle thefts and a series of vehicle burglaries in the early morning hours today.

Incident Details:

At approximately 4:30 a.m. this morning, two vehicles were reported stolen from the Trevor Creek and Antioch Manor subdivisions. Responding officers initiated a pursuit upon spotting the stolen cars. However, the pursuit was terminated as the fleeing suspects reached speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour near the downtown district, prioritizing public safety.

Investigations revealed that one of the stolen vehicles was taken while warming up in the owner’s driveway, while the other was believed to have been hotwired. In addition to the stolen vehicles, 14 vehicles were entered, with items stolen from some and others tampered with in attempted thefts.

Residents are reminded to secure their vehicles by locking doors and keeping belongings out of sight. All recent instances of theft or burglary involved unlocked vehicles.

Chief Guttschow emphasized vigilance among residents, urging them to report any suspicious activity immediately to 911 without intervening. He highlighted the organized nature of such crimes and warned against potential dangers, including armed suspects.

While there is no evidence of the recent thieves being armed, Chief Guttschow assured the community that the police department will increase overnight patrols in residential areas.
